Go and practice being calm, not trying to get rid of desires. If you try to get rid of desires, it becomes another tool of desire. The one who can fight against desire and cleanse desire is wisdom, the right understanding. The Buddha spoke about personal purity with wisdom. Wisdom means seeing the truth. Even though it is wisdom at a level where it can fight against desire, it is called 'Vipassana Wisdom.' Even if it can truly fight against desire, it is still called Vipassana Wisdom."
This passage highlights the importance of wisdom, particularly Vipassana Wisdom, in understanding and dealing with desires and defilements. It emphasizes that trying to forcefully eliminate desires can backfire and that genuine wisdom is the key to true purification. Wisdom is associated with seeing the truth clearly and not merely suppressing desires.
